ROOF SAVERS ............ Never heard of them!
One of our own innovations to stop the roof light scratching the roof. Although you might not plan to take your light off many times,
slight movement of the magnets and the retention of dirt and water round the magnets will mark your roof.
With a little bit of heat ( hair dryer will do ) it comes off when you are going to sell the vehicle.
A small price to spend on a new vehicle to keep the roof looking new.
Roof lights are 12 volt lights that are used by many to indicate the type of vehicle, Hackney or Private Hire and sometimes the company that the vehicle is attached to. They are normally fixed to the vehicle roof using its magnets on the bottom but they can also be converted to be bolted on a roof bar. The standard method of lighting the signs is to have the sign lit when free or not hired,
There are now some licensing authorities that have changed the standard to private hire vehicles only having their roof light lit when they have a passenger on board. A pre-booked private hire vehicle pulling up outside a club in a row of cabs, has then got to keep his roof light off so the customer cannot see them, when the customer gets in, he puts the light on. !!!! yes, very useful.
Other places private hire vehicles can only switch on their light when outside a customers house.

In some areas, a green lamp is fixed to the top of the roof light. This is switched on and off by the taxi meter to indicate whether the cab is hired or not. The roof light would then be lit continuously.

Although these 5 in round magnets are for Lettercraft Roof Lights, they can be used for any roof light you are rebuilding. More powerful then the rectangle magnets. Use 1 for 12in signs .... 2 for up to 24in .....3 for up to 36in signs. They are supplied complete with fixing nut and bolt, as well as a rubber boot.
These are replacement magnets for delta signs. Although less powerful than the round magnets, some say they are better because they are rubber covered. The only draw back is that you can not change the rubber covering when it becomes pitted and torn after a few years. 3ins x 2ins M6 threaded stud in the centre.
These replacement rubber magnet covers are for the round Lettercraft Roof Lights magnets. Easy to change when they get torn.

This is a standard roof light plug as used by roof light manufacturers. Its made by Bulgin but as we all know, is not water proof. It was manufactured for use in 240 volt mains circuits electrical equipment for in doors use, not 12 volt vehicle circuits but has become a standard in this industry. Because of this, no roof light manufacturer wants to start using a proper waterproof plug as they are certain to lose some sales because some driver needing a new light would say the new light with a new waterproof socket would not fit their existing power lead. As the lead has to be soldered into the plug, it also makes it hard for the man in the street to do his own repairs to the lead.
